Loneliness affects lots of people. Older people in particular can become more and more isolated as families move away and their mobility and confidence deteriorates.
Neston Angels, brings older people who live alone together with local volunteers who can spare time each week to visit them and spend time with them. Even just having a cuppa and a chat can make a huge difference to someone who spends much of their time alone.
Often, volunteers will connect them with other people and services in the area, through meet ups at local activities such as luncheon clubs and our Neston Angels Senior Matinees.

Dy volunteers in the NCYC office, making calls every Thursday to clients, for a quick chat and a catch up. Dy is a former insurance salesman, so he’s a natural at establishing a rapport with people,
Dy says, "‘I’m still very independent and able to get out and about, but I know there are lots of older people in Neston who can’t.
I like to think I make a difference just by giving a few hours of my time each week to pick up the phone and have a chat with each of the Neston Angels clients"

Could you be a befriender?
Befrienders commit to regular visits for an extended period, so they can really get to know clients and build a supportive and trusting relationship.
Typically, befrienders visit people in their own home on a weekly or fortnightly basis for 1 – 2 hours.
